What is TNR?

TNR stands for Trap-Neuter-Return. It is the most effective and most humane way to control a street cat population, and it is the heart of everything we do.

Step by step

How it works

1

Trap

Cats are caught humanely in safe traps, with food and patience. Nothing is chased or grabbed.

2

Neuter

Each cat is sterilised and treated for parasites, wounds and illness before it goes back.

3

Return

Cats are returned to the colony they know. Removing them only opens the space for new cats.

4

Care

We keep feeding, watching for sickness and sheltering the colony long after the operation.

5

Educate

We explain community cats to residents and businesses, so colonies are tolerated and protected.

Why it works

Healthier cats

Sterilised cats are healthier, fight and roam less, and live longer than the cats they replace.

Colonies shrink

With no new kittens, a colony gradually gets smaller and calmer, without endless cycles of kittens, illness and suffering.

No vacuum effect

Clearing a colony just invites new cats in. Keeping neutered cats in place is what actually holds a street.
